The reason behind the change on the new RAM 6.7L tappet was to quiet down the engine noise. The 2019-2024 engines run quieter but at price!
Yes, the Hydraulic lifter issues RAM 2019 2021 2022 2023 2024 6.7L Cummins Engines are becoming a more common failure point on these engines. So what is the best thing to do to protect against this issue? Running a 10w-30 Synthetic oil. We suggest using the Hot Shot Secrets or equivalent oil. For the longevity of the engine we suggest changing the oil more frequently than the owners manual suggests. Changing the oil between 5,000 to 7,000 miles is more ideal for overall longevity of the engine.
If you are starting to hear a thump in your intake this is a good indication hydraulic lifters are starting to fail. At this point we would suggest installing a diesel performance upgrade. The Hamilton 2019+ flat tappet conversion kit replaces the factory Hydraulic roller lifters and cam to a reliable flat tappet, and is emission compliant. It includes 178/208 replacement camshaft, DLC coated steel tappets, upgraded pushrods, and Adjustable rocker arms with DLC coated trunnions and upgraded oiling.
We would suggest getting the engine rebuilt and doing the flat tappet conversion when rebuilding the engine. If you need your engine replaced or rebuilt we can help!
This kit will fit all 2019-2024 Rams with hydraulic roller lifters.
